“Katie’s approach to coaching is collaborative – what is working for me, what isn’t, and if it isn’t, why not? It is helpful to dig through the ‘why not’ as it is a critical driver for my success. Sometimes the answer is something I can address, but for the times it isn’t, it helps me to change direction when I am part of the conversation and solution. Just being handed a bandage IS helpful, but it is more helpful to understand how you got hurt in the first place. When I meet with Katie, we discuss my progress from our last discussion, my accomplishments with my prior goals, and we circle around what I didn’t achieve as planned. Some answers are easy and obvious…
“Some of the challenges are not about what I am or am not doing, but about how I am approaching it. I live in the complicated world of LIFE. Sometimes I am living it and sometimes it is living me. Katie is good at giving me perspective, encouraging me to keep myself as a priority, and giving me the occasional ‘push’ when I need it. We end our meetings with a plan – goals for the next meeting and typically some kind of ‘exploring’ for me: anything from a new option for my diet to changing my perspective by previewing a book.
“I appreciate that Katie approaches me as a person, not a project. My well being and my journey to wellness is a complex web of family, food, work, sleep, attitude, knowledge, and about 100 other things. Katie is aware of all of this when we meet, and she questions, supports, guides, and cheerleads. She has been a powerful component of my walk to sustained wellness.”
